what do you think is the greatest sensory toy to "must have" ?

 Nicole Stewart ‏@jerseygirl0611 @ellevogueandme my daughter loves her Bilibo. And trampoline too #sensorywonderland

Elle Vogue ‏@ellevogueandme
@jerseygirl0611 I just ordered Bilibo for R from Amazon , thanks for the response !

Leslie ‏@les24d @ellevogueandme right now: trampoline, but I really want to get him a sensory swing &i think that would bump the tramp.out of 1st place :-)

Leslie ‏@les24d @ellevogueandme I have a friend who got one from Ikea http://m.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/spr/19809351/

Leslie ‏@les24d @ellevogueandme they can go indoors, I have seen some that anchor to a doorway or on the ceiling

Janice H. Rash ‏@Jrmom24 @ellevogueandme Finger paint...kids can squish it, move it around,follow premade patterns, learn colors, learn color mixing, be creative

Ideas how to explain lying vs playing a trick (joke) to child who doesn't understand diff between
reality/make believe? #asperger #autism

Some Answers from Facebook friends of Becky Hallberg

Becky Hallberg ‏@BeckyHallberg @angelsnest777 @ellevogueandme Some answers from FB friends: 1.Jokes/Tricks make us laugh/feel good;
lying makes other person feel badly.

Becky Hallberg ‏@BeckyHallberg @angelsnest777 @ellevogueandme 2.Lying is to get out of trouble/get out of responsibility; jokes for
showing happiness/making someone happy.

Becky Hallberg ‏@BeckyHallberg @angelsnest777 @ellevogueandme 3.Intent behind joke=2make someone laugh. Intent behind lie=cover up

Educative and Informative Discussion between BeckyHallberg and JenTroester

Jen ?@JenTroester @BeckyHallberg have you tried turning it around and asking how he would feel? Easier for our kids to
think in those terms.

Becky Hallberg ?@BeckyHallberg @JenTroester It's still a new concept & we'll keep working; just curious what others had tried - 'cause
we'll try anything! :)

Jen ?@JenTroester @BeckyHallberg yeah, K doesn't care much unless she doesn't earn, say, iPad time ;)

Becky Hallberg ?@BeckyHallberg
@JenTroester but I want to keep it from turning into an all-out "lying fest".

Jen ?@JenTroester @BeckyHallberg yeah, we are huge with reinforcements.

Becky Hallberg ?@BeckyHallberg @JenTroester Sure does help! He hates when he loses a privilege - meltdown waiting to happen!

Jen ?@JenTroester @BeckyHallberg have you tried turning it around and asking how he would feel? Easier for our kids to
think in those terms.

Becky Hallberg ?@BeckyHallberg @JenTroester to some extent, yes, & it works except when he lies. Then he tries to brush it off like it
wouldn't bother him.

Jen ?@JenTroester @BeckyHallberg is it a daily issue? Can he earn something preferred for not lying, not earn it if he
does? We do earned things a ton.

Becky Hallberg ?@BeckyHallberg @JenTroester It's not daily, no, really just a brand new issue we're noticing & trying to head off b4 it
becomes a daily issue.

Jen ?@JenTroester @BeckyHallberg the visual part of the autism sometimes responds to that. As opposed to us just telling
her. It's hard, I know!

Becky Hallberg ?@BeckyHallberg @JenTroester ooh - yes! That's good! We've done visual cues for other things as well.

& his answers are never malicious,

Carol Edwards ‏ @caroledwards77
@ellevogueandme My experience says research into GR is to discover a biological cure,but my gut says accept and find ways to manage ASD cont

Carol Edwards ‏ @caroledwards77 @ellevogueandme and help kids cope psychologically and socially with proven strategies, which improves and maintains their quality of life:)

Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme @caroledwards77 do you know anyone who is using this treatment and has helped? Even Yes or No answer will be fine, not looking for any names

Carol Edwards ‏ @caroledwards77 @ellevogueandme No, it was discussed at an ASD group, but parents decided it was wiser to use management tools than trying to find a cure.

Is anyone following any special diets here for the kids like GFCF or something else ? Did it helped ?

Janine Hardwick ‏ @owenflight
@ellevogueandme
sometimes here they suggest that wheat is cut out of the diet, just to see if it helps.

 WayneA ‏ @WayneAlder
@ellevogueandme
We,did it for two years. We noticed no change in mental state.But it was a worthy try. I undedrstand others have seen change

Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme
@WayneAlder
thanks Wayne, did you any change in terms of digestion, Weight etc ?

WayneA ‏ @WayneAlder
@ellevogueandme
great question. Grant's belly seemed to be a litte smaller on diet. That was about only change and it was slight

Alexia Conrad ‏ @A13xiaH
@ellevogueandme
Theo loves pasta and yogurt. His nutritionist would rather we try a rainbow of foods. New foods = very hard, but we try.

Alexia Conrad ‏ @A13xiaH
@ellevogueandme
PS. We did test for gluten allergy. He does not have it. So we continue same diet. Supplement with liquid vitamins.

Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme
@A13xiaH
so does Theo eats pasta and Yogurt which is gluten and caesin free ? Or any type ?

  Alexia Conrad ‏ @A13xiaH
@ellevogueandme
Gerber graduates ravioli, YoBaby b'berry yogurt. Also eats bananas, milk + boost, yogurt melts, apple juice. Soft textures.

Megan Klein :) ‏ @Megan8D725
@ellevogueandme @daisydreamer_03
Yes! My nephew is on a gluten free diet and it seemed to calm him down and help a lot :)

Marjolein Döll @0‏508NL
@ellevogueandme
Not a specific diet, but to eat at regular times throughout the day helps my girl significantly! #autisme #questionoftheday

Helen Smith ‏ @HelenSm40958046
@ellevogueandme
G has been GFCF for 2 years now. Had pretty good varied diet before switching and still has. Bowel movements better &

Helen Smith ‏ @HelenSm40958046
@ellevogueandme
improvement in concentration and mood swings. Not so keen on dairy free stuff (tastes weird!) but some lovely

Helen Smith ‏ @HelenSm40958046
@ellevogueandme
gluten free food out there! :)

@Erin Steed ‏ @ECS001

maz iknoun ‏ @bettyboop19791

miriam yost ‏ @poeticnvisions
@ellevogueandme can he do it?? Sometimes if I let my son do it it turns out for the better.

miriam yost ‏ @poeticnvisions
@ellevogueandme I'm sorry! If nothing else works I try a distraction. Is he ok with touch from u? Sometimes it's just a hug moment here

Leslie ‏ @les24d

Should we try to break the routine for kids with Autism/OCD ?

Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme Autism Question - kids get into very defined routine,where everything has to be certain steps,do u try to break it -#OCD #autism

carrie ‏ @gotpolitics
@ellevogueandme w/OCD it is a matter of getting out of comfort zone in order to be comfortable with anxiety and move beyond it

miriam yost ‏ @poeticnvisions @ellevogueandme I do from time to time when he is having a good day. I try to let him know that he might Have to adjust. Not too often tho
Jeannette ‏ @AutismMumma @ellevogueandme sometimes a routine has to be broken, unforeseen etc. occasionally will break routine deliberately as that is life #autism

Denise Tiffany ‏ @DeniseTiffany1 @ellevogueandme routine helps them, but they need to learn to handle changes. Try to find a balance. This was/is hard for my son.

Christa Law ‏ @christalaw @ellevogueandme I would NEVER try to break Cade's routine. #routine is comfort. Familiarity is a HUGE deal. #autism #AutismMom

 Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme
@christalaw
but How go you prepare them for life then? Because Life never comes in a routine ? Just Curious !!

Christa Law ‏ @christalaw
@ellevogueandme
one day at a time. I can't look too far ahead. I'm sure you have routines that you don't think twice about.

Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme
@christalaw
yeah, u r right certain routines require break like spilling water glass on clothes 4 times before having pancake !!

Found some articles on web also related to this question, thought maybe helpful

What Helps to calm down your hyperactive child?

Diane Paecht ‏ @Sotinkerbell68 @ellevogueandme lavendar and vanilla baths sometimes

Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme How about anyone used any sensory toys to calm them from Hyper Activity ? #autism

Jeannette ‏ @AutismMumma @ellevogueandme we tried them but D was more interested in taking them in the bath - all rubbery, stretchy things. She relies on her soft .little bunny & we use deep pressure hugs & just got a weighted blanket #sensoryissues #autism

 Elle Vogue ‏ @ellevogueandme Nice,we just got R this crash mat to jump and stuff on it recently. We also try deep pressure hugs,which I learnt from R"s mom
Jeannette ‏ @AutismMumma @ellevogueandme that sounds brill :) we have a spare room that I'd love to turn into soft padded sensory room - full of junk ATM

@TinyToddlers Calming music,darken the room and talk softly should help :)
